STEVE TRAFFORD AS GOOD AS IT GETS

Manchester’s Steve Trafford has dropped a new single, along with the announcement of his upcoming solo album. ‘As Good As It Gets’ was recorded by Trafford (former member of The Fall) in his garden shed, before being handed to In The Airplane Over The Sea producer, Robert Schneider. The end result is a unique sound that merges a triumphant brass band with nostalgic pop minimalism and a hugely catchy lead vocal. “Lyrically it’s a tongue-in-cheek play on the double entendre phrase ‘as good as it gets’,” he explains. “Telling someone they are as good as it gets could either be very offensive or very beautiful. In essence that’s what it’s about: a cheeky joke and accepting your lot in life.” Be on the lookout for his album later this year. -Dan Peeke.
